Our Path to Net Zero

Our Path to Net Zero

Engaging Colleagues to Reduce our Environmental Footprint

In 2020, Playtech has an established cross-functional Environment Forum, which meets quarterly, and its remit includes the development and maintenance of an environmental for the Group as well as setting, co-ordinating and overseeing the strategy and response to the challenges posed by climate change.

Assessing Risks and Building Resilience

Climate-related risks are considered as part of the overall risk process. The Group Internal Audit and Risk function collects information on risks from stakeholders across the business, which is then presented to the Group Risk Management Committee (executive management committee) and Board Risk and Compliance Committee (Board committee).

Climate-related risks are monitored as part of the Sustainability strategy and Compliance and Regulatory Affairs risk processes.

Case Studies

Our partnership with Hubbub started in 2019 through an innovative project focused on addressing the issue of plastic pollution. The partnership began with a plastic-fishing initiative in London’s Docklands, where our employees worked from a boat constructed of recycled plastic to remove litter from the river. This provided participants with valuable first-hand exposure to the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste, forming the foundation for their longer-term commitment to sustainability.

By 2022, our partnership had evolved, and we joined forces with Hubbub to launch our global Sustainability Partnership Programme, driven by our environmental goals.

A key component of this initiative was the Sustainability Listening Project, which gathered insights directly from colleagues worldwide. By understanding their experiences, aspirations, and ideas for living more sustainably, we ensured that our company plans reflected the needs and priorities of our people. An incredible 75% of our employees expressed pride in working for a company actively prioritising sustainability.

  • Several impactful campaigns emerged from the Listening Project
  • Global Tech Check — a worldwide e-waste donation and recycling drive.
  • Power Down, Save Up — an energy-saving communications takeover.
  • Sustainable Living: Let’s Get Cooking – A campaign educating employees about food sustainability, exploring topics like food waste, packaging reduction, and plant-based eating. Playtech employees from around the world contributed recipes to our 25th anniversary cookbook, turning sustainability education into a collaborative, global experience.

At the start of 2025, we launched our biggest campaign to date: The Power of One

This year-long global challenge empowers our employees to take one sustainable action each month, proving that even small efforts can collectively lead to big changes.

Our partnership continues to drive impactful sustainability initiatives, inspiring colleagues to make meaningful contributions toward a greener future. And with even more plans on the horizon, we’re excited to carry this momentum forward—so stay tuned for what’s next!

At Playtech, we are not only advancing in technology and sustainability. We are also fostering a community where the people who drive our success are at the heart of everything we do. In 2024, our local operations in Estonia transitioned from a traditional office setup to a state-of-the-art data centre, through our partnership with Greenergy Data Centres (GDC).

Our new facility in Tallinn is powered by renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and hydro power. This transition not only enhances our operational efficiency but also aligns with our environmental goals. But what truly sets Playtech apart is our people. Our team in Estonia, and across the globe, is driven by a shared vision of excellence and sustainability.

“GDC’s local presence and expertise will be crucial in enhancing our operational efficiencies and system reliability in Estonia. This partnership supports our long-term goal of operating and growing our business more sustainably.”

Gal Shapira, CIO and Platform CTO of Playtech

As part the announcement of this partnership, Oliver Urb, Infrastructure Planning and Design Manager based in the Estonia Office conducted a practical seminar at the Tallinn Botanical Garden, where he presented to various governmental and large IT companies in Estonia. Following the presentation, there was an open question forum where Risto Arik, Infrastructure Architect from Playtech, joined to address different technical and environmental challenges faced by Playtech locally and globally.

The Playtech Estonia team was also invited to give a lecture at Tallinn Technical University to share practical experiences with master’s degree students.

“Our partnership with Playtech is a prime example of how innovation can benefit both the environment and business. Playtech is making great strides towards its sustainability goals, setting high standards in the tech industry.”
Toomas Kell, CTOO of Greenergy Data Centre

In 2022, the Live team in Latvia implemented several initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of the operation. The operation in Latvia is unique, as it serves as both an office and Live Casino studio, which operates 24/7. During the summertime, the electricity consumed by the central cooling system is one of the high-emitting sources of the office’s carbon footprint.

The most significant initiative in 2022 was switching to renewable energy. The Live facility switched its electricity to renewable power sources, including hydro energy. The shift to renewable energy was a significant step towards reducing the site’s and Group’s carbon emissions.

In 2022 Snaitech added a further step to its journey aimed at safeguarding the environment. Through its collaboration with Rete Clima, a non-profit organisation active in sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives, the company is supporting the ‘Foresta Italia’ project by planting 3,000 new trees in Lombardy, Lazio and Tuscany. Snaitech has involved its entire community by activating the “PIANTALA! Many people together make a change. Many trees planted make a forest”. All employees were asked to plant new trees during 3 volunteer initiatives organised in Lombardy, Tuscany and Lazio. In 2022, the first stage was realised, with the planting of 1,000 trees in Nova Milanese. In 2023 the project will continue in Tuscany and Lazio.

We kicked off the partnership with Playtech’s “Sustainability Listening Project”, a study of Playtech colleagues’ behaviours and aspirations around sustainable living. Over 400 colleagues took part, with eight in ten stating they wanted Playtech to support them in living more sustainably and to provide tips on energy usage both at work and at home, and 75% stating they are proud to work for an employer that is prioritising sustainability.
